Growth

I stumbled upon a really interesting question the other day that made me realize how much I have changed through the course of my life.

The question was:

If you were forced to spend the rest of your life in a library, a museum or a zoo, which would you choose and why?

I thought about this for a little while. When I was a child, I would have no doubt picked a zoo. I loved animals so much, and I wanted so badly to become a veterinarian. I would have done anything to send all my time at a zoo observing all the different animals and learning as much about them as possible such as, their behaviour habits, or their social relationships with each other. I wouldn't have even given the other two options a second thought.

However, as I grew into an adolescent, I think I would have switched my choice. I would have picked a museum. I became fascinated with art and human nature. I would have loved to wonder around a beautiful old museum for the rest of my life studying everything from dinosaurs to outer space, art to biology, history as well as the traditions and cultures of the past and present.

Today, I would once again switch my pick. I would choose a library because I could learn about all the animals I loved as a child, all the culture and art I loved as a teenager, and all the amazing literature that I love as an adult. I would be able to study and learn about all the questions I have had my entire life. I could learn about outer space and about how much a sloth sleeps in a year. I would be giving up seeing the animals in situation, and seeing original art pieces, and dinosaur bones, for example, but my ability to learn a broader range of material would be met. If I got bored studying the mating rituals of the grizzly bear, I could escape into a wonderful fiction thriller! A library would offer me unlimited opportunity!

I am always happy to come across weird little things that make me delve a little deeper into myself, and I am curious as to what other people think. If you could choose a library, a museum or a zoo, what would it be and why?
